New podcast from UK experimental label Hot Flush. Hot Flush is home to Scuba, Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie, Sigha, and Sepalcure, all amazing artists. AQF hails from Berlin and has put together a beautiful mix. No write up or track list has been released that I can find. The mix speaks for itself though. Sonically it begins quite eerily with a thick raspy voice, and stays dark. The rhythms and tones are crisp, and full. The hand-claps, cymbals, tambourines, and percussion are next level. This mix deserves further study and careful listening, but the sinister grooves will satisfy everyone. Its further proof Hot Flush is something special. AQF had a few free tunes up on his soundcloud and I’ve posted them below. Peace.
The Nightshifters label is setting up to have a monster fall. We’ve already posted on Talk, but recently DJ Donna Summer signed Canblaster, Distal, and Magnum. Canblaster is a favorite around here, and I’ve dug everything I’ve heard of Distal. His rhythms and production are smooth, and his new tune typewriter is rad. Magnum is a bit newer to me, but his soundcloud is lovely. Learn more here. Canblaster just dropped a huge remix of Style of Eye that’s been turning heads (available at rcrd lbl). Plus nightshifters veteran Rx put together a solid end of summer mix. I posted a few soundcloud tunes to check out at the bottom for a more on these artists. Peace!
Its not really clear when the Duck Sauce tune Barbara Streisand is going to get released. What I hear is great. Fare Soldi have made a bootleg of it somehow, and they kill it. There have been a few edits and remixes already, but this is the top so far. The noticeable changes kick in about halfway with some nice sample chopping by Fare Soldi. There’s also some nice swirling synths used in moderation. They don’t mess with what works in the original which is key. Also included their remix of Congorock from a month ago that rules. Smooth, high energy, and fun are what Fare Soldi do extremely well. Peace!
Phenomenal mix from Dave Huismans (2562 & A Made Up Sound). He’s always functioned on the outer fields of dubstep/garage/experimental music. Learn more here. The mix is coherent, seamless, and builds wells. There are a number of his tracks and some exciting new tracks. The Instra:mental, Scuba, Addison Groove, and Breach sound great. Much of the podcast hovers around a steady beat (just slightly off kilter), and adds fluidity. The rhythms are still interesting and varied enough to keep the heads happy. The Lone track ‘pineapple crush‘ is a huge tune! There’s even a few oldschool detroit and juke rhythms towards the end. Also check little white earbuds for a full interview with the man. Lovely.
Dave Huismans has certainly been a busy man. After last year’s excellent Unbalance LP as 2562 he founded his own label A Made Up Sound as well as issued a one-off twelve as Blackout. Untethered by tempo and genre restrictions, Huismans injects loads of funk into kinetic tracks that detune and contort around technicolor synths and shattered beats. We caught up with Huismans to chat about his recent activity, the difference between his monikers, as well as some of his current favorites. He also provided our exclusive 57th podcast, full of fresh and exciting cuts from all corners of dance music.
