Remixing is the best form of Flattery

If a song has been remixed by a ton of people what does that mean? I’ve been going through my collection looking for songs that have been remixed again and again. The two songs I have seen remixed the most are cut copy’s hearts on fire and digitalism’s pogo (the preset’s this boy’s in love was pretty popular too). The originals are perfect on their own and have gained much notoriety. In my eyes both groups have really helped define, and draw me to what I see now as electro (that’s pretty important I’d say). If Justice, at the time, were the new religion then cut copy and digitalism were say peter and paul. Luckily they didn’t follow suit with their aesthetics. Anyways, heres the music. Take it.

Cut copy has come quite a long way. More Aussie music from Melbourne! The band consists of Dan Whitford, Tim Hoey, and Mitchell Dean Scott. Their first album bright like neon love was good, but I was more enthralled with Justice and Digitalism’s idealism at the time. In ghost colours dropped this year (their newest album, very solid) and has definitely stuck with me a bit more. Hearts on fire is extremely taste. Full of glamor, I love the saxophone. Hearts on fire reach out to you tonight. I had this stuck on repeat in my head for a couple weeks. So, why so many remixes? This could be the chance a new artist has been waiting for to get noticed. Is it possible to make better? Yes and no. The holy ghost! remix (already up here) and the aeroplane remix are probably my favs. There were a bunch more I left off because they were mediocre and bland. Is it possible to have too many remixes? Give em a go.

Digitalism are pretty frickin awesome. They are a German duo who have put out some top notch electro music. My guess is you’ve heard (of) them at some point. While the majority of digitalism’s catalogue is hard and distorted (similar to early justice) they don’t go overboard and are capable of a wide spectrum. I would definitely recommend their album Idealism. One of the bigger singles (on the album) was Pogo. The single has been out for a while and the album came out in 2007. Even still I’ve seen a few remixes popping up lately (Beni B and hey today!) that are actually great. Maybe that’s a sign. It sounds like we might see a new album from them this coming year. Anyways here it is.
Digitalism is a German dance punk duo, founded in 2004 in Hamburg, Germany, consisting of Jens “Jence” Moelle and İsmail “Isi” Tüfekçi. They are signed to French label Kitsuné Music. Jens likens Digitalism’s songs to simple chapters in a complex novel about social interaction and attraction, with distorted bass lines and thumping rhythms comprising the punctuation. – wikipedia
