Yes, there is disco in Texas. As a matter of fact I think it was invented as a celebration after the victory at the battle of the alamo by a soon to be well known model named Christie Brinkley. I believe Chuck Norris made it famous on that show of his texi range. Yeah, about that, d.i.s.c.o.texas has actually very little to do with Texas and there may or may not be disco there. It’s a label/collective started by moulinex (Lisbon, Portugal) xinobi (Munich, Germany), gun n rose, Bandidos, Double Damage and Cpt. Luvlace. They blend electro and disco exceedingly well for a retro feel. Moulinex has been consistently dropping great remixes and tracks for a grip. Xinobi first got my attention with the track ‘day off’ which is gorgeous (made it on to around & around). For the record, disco actually started in early 70’s/late 60’s. The first disco club opened in New York with the first record coming out in 1972ish. Extended songs with larger more complicated arrangements (more musicians needed)made it expensive to produce. It had almost completely faded from existence by the early early 80’s for a number of reasons (check the wiki disco page for taste). It arguably had direct influence on early hip hop, electro, and house. Most of the stuff i’ve been listening to lately would probably be considered post disco as it’s more simply arranged and much heavier on the synths (i’m not a 100% certain of this and slightly confused now). Regardless discotexas is really on to something, check it.

Xinobi hails from Lisbon, Portugal. I fell in love with the track ‘day off’ and from there have been trying to find more. He can disco quite nicely with lots of synths to keep me happy. There hasn’t been too much recently but he’s been on tour (going to be in the states in new york and philly in January). Check the bio from the discotexas site -
“XINOBI is Bruno Cardoso, a fine arts major, and a musical explorer by excellence. He has his roots on Punk, Rock and Skate but he also really likes to Disco and dance. He owns a great record collection and he’s proud of own some mp3 too! He also knows how to play the guitar, although he’s not a great guitar player he plays with the 4 coolest rockers around Portugal. Wanna know more about him? Well, he’s goofy, shy and funny, acid and sweet, smart and proud of it. He doesn’t like Sushi that much. He hates to be called a dumb ass – which is unfair – but he’s also fair, Epic, and Epileptic. XINOBI has also been requested by several worldwide clubs, and together with MOULINEX, they embody one of the biggest live-acts / dj sets you’ll ever see. Promised.” Sweet! He has a single out for day off . It’s available at beatport with anoraak & gun n rose remixes and losing sight (it’s posted here but in lower quality). We should be seeing another EP/Single coming out soon for his song BMX (includes BMX, car chase and the moulinex remix). Here ’tis.

Xinobi also does a great refit of a Roger Troutman man tune, ‘do it.’ Troutman is also of Zapp & Roger fame who’re already familiar here. It’s a great early electro funk song with a slight disco feel (off of the album the many facets of Roger). Xinobi molds it into a disco lectro gem.do it roger – roger troutmando it – roger troutman (xinobi remix)

some older stuffxinobi likes heavy metal (a mix he did in 07, harder but still worth trying)
gunpowder of love – xinobi

Moulinex has been dishing out really nice disco tracks and remixes left and right. There’s quite a bit floating out in cyberspace. He’s been popular here already a couple of times. Here the ‘fficial bio -
Luis Clara Gomes is living in Munich, Germany, but is originally from Viseu, a small town in country-side Portugal, where he was one of the founding elements in D.I.S.C.O.TEXAS. Having a strong music background during childhood, he formed a duo, which eventually became MOULINEX, setting off with a couple of remixes for Portuguese bands, and doing several live-acts throughout the country. MOULINEX has since become a solo project – while still doing research in both Neurology and Astronomy (!!), Luis has shown his true potential on writing producing both original and remixes. Considered to be among the biggest electronica newcomers in Portugal, MOULINEX has been confirming that status, having been requested to do remixes for Modular, Kitsuné, Gomma and Compost Records, and with constant show requests throughout the world. On his CV we can find Australia, US, France, UK, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, among others.
He has a single/ep out, break chops (a few are posted here but are lower quality), out on the discotexas label, available at beatport. The future is bright for moulinex. I narrowed it down a bit to keep it manageable.

Did you know mp3 blogs have been around since 2002? Check out fluxblog, the first mp3 blog ever, started by Matthew Perpetua. Not really my cup of tea (lots of R.E.M.), but there would be no Spun if there was no Flux (maybe). Anyways I guess we’re kinda related. Can we say fluxblog is to mp3 blogging like the first homo sapiens are to the current modern man? Blog years are waay shorter than I thought. Check out these vids(Basement & Unicorn Kingdom Club). I really can’t put into words the weirdness/hilarity of Nuglah. Alright, we gotta end this post so I’m throwing a few tracks from different ends of the electronic scene. There’s two more tresh fings remixes that have surfaced in the last couple days (hats off to splatter for the breathtakingly good post on him), a new prodigy track, and a b-more joint. Also check out claire hux (Symbol, DLake, & DJ Morsy) a new super bmore group. They have a free mixtape out (jammin on the one) put together by Scottie B (get it here).
