So we’re back east for the holidays. Lots of time with the fam. Another one down as they say. So to help with the NYE I thought I’d post some great music and mixes that have popped up for the occassion. Everyone’s been releasing mixes it seems like. My favorite has to be the one dropped by DJ Rampage who recently put out stuff on the newly created nightshifters label (by DJ Donna Summer) for the mnuvrs mixtape series (mnvurs has other great mixes by louis la rouche, and futurecop!). Mad Decent already posted about it. So I thought I’d post some of his other tracks. He’s also affliated with the Brick Bandits crew out of bmore, and the ghetto division out of Chicago (crazy credentials). I’ve already posted his Axel E track (using theme to Beverly Hills Cop) but I thought I’d give him a proper intro. Plus Tittsworth, Don Rimini, and Soulwax have all dropped some sweet mixes for the NYE. Let’s do it.

Rampage (check out his blog ) hails from Chicago. There isn’t a ton of info on him floating around the net but judging by the company he keeps I’m (Brick Bandits, Nightshifters, Ghetto Division) surprised it’s taken me until this fall to get wise. He’s got quite a few releases on beatport (video game music, hella sick yo) as well as a number of mixes (available on soundcloud) such as southside bmore beatdown and the bmore project (w/rob threezy and maddjazz). He’s definitely talented behind the tables.
Here’s what’s been posted on mnuvrs – MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE. And i bet you thought you’d opened/consumed all of your presents today hadn’t you. Well NO not quite yet. We have something VERY VERY VERY special for you in the form of our much anticipated mixtape number 9 from NIGHTSHIFTERS very own DJ RAMPAGE. Born and raised on the southside of Chicago we can clearly hear this mans influences from his home city shining through. RAMPAGE started DJing at the age of 11 back in 1995 progressing towards the point in 2004 when he was able to start producing, not looking back since.

Finally, the mix. I really don’t know how he packs so much in! It’s 37 songs. 37 songs in the course of an hour. This mix should definitely draw some positive attention. The transitions are what make or break a mix for me. Rampage nailed them, and there aren’t really any lags or low points that I can hear. The first few songs might seem a bit odd but they ony build the intensity. By the time hoochie mama rolls around it’s ON with both barrells blastin’. Here’s what mnuvrs had to say about it. – A solid and sumptuous mix of some of the finest house around; Funky, jackin, bassline and up front this man has filled us an hour long mix that takes the MNUVRS MIXTAPE VAULT to another level and proving once again just how much talent is flowing through the city of Chicago right now. Overflowing with 37 outstanding tracks this mix contains more tracks than any other MNUVRS mixtape, but this has not meant a compromise in the track selection with absolute bangers from the likes of BIRD PETERSON, ROB 3 and RAMPAGE himself. With classic tracks under his belt such as REACTIVATE, FIRE & LET IT GO, RAMPAGE has certainly made a serious impact on 2008 and is going to be a key name to watch out for on DONNA SUMMER’s label NIGHTSHIFTERS during 2009. BONUS: here’s a few to keep you going through the night. Le Castle Vania is on top of his game these days. His remix of Rave is King is unreal. I’ve also got a extremely danceable disco remix by sidechains and buffetlibre . Lastly, I’ve got a few bangin electro tracks from DnB legends Noisia that crush bone. I like the new tracks they’ve been dropping. They’re synths are amazing (lots of texture?). I guess it doesn’t matter what genre. Our list is still coming, but it’s been tough slimming it down as well as remembering everything. Hope your NYE 2008 is TASTE!!!
