This Los Angeles based duo has been moving bodies to their remixes since 2006.  Previously known as “Young Americans”, Classixx (Twitter) is made from the skills of x-Berklee College of Music students, Michael David and Tyler Blake, who were fortunate enough to learn from Mike Shipley in their earliest days (ref).  Last year, they started a unique electro-collective in L.A. called No Culture, which music-friends Acid Girls and Royal Rumble were a part of. These two peers of Classixx have their own unique flavors of electro, deserving of separate posts in the future. Classixx’s own signature is a unique form of warm, melodic synthy-electro and could easily fit in alongside other nu-age Italo Disco beats. They are currently leaving their mark on U.S.’s coasts and stepping around China and Europe, serving up world-class beats.

“I’ll Get You” is the debut track from the new collaboration between Kitsuné Records and photoblogger TheCobraSnake (Kitsuné x The Cobrasnake EP), split with Acid Girl’s “Wake Up” featuring Frankmusik.  Please, do yourself a favor and check out Acid Girl’s part on their MySpace, its a gem.

Their interpretation of Mayer Hawthorne’s “Green Eyed Love” has a smooth, sophisticated feel, laced with a soft, upbeat disco touch. Feels like I’m in a dream scanning a canvas of earcandy.

Classixx earlier influences are west coast Hip-Hop (ref), Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Stuart Prince, and Simian Mobile Disco.  Love how this duo has a lot of energy yet can harness it into varieties that span the energy spectrum.  Personal fav is “Cold Act Ill” (most digitized energy and almost slides into a trancy feel for a moment @~3min in). Their remix of Shiny Toy Guns “Starts With One” is another blissmix of electro-hype.

Their hot, electro-dense-energy of their singles and remixes as “Young Americans” somehow takes me back to the good ol’ retro days, in my pixelated red convertible speedin’ along the beach with my girl.
