Jim-E Stack
The recent Nguzunguzu ep, Mirage, was and is a favorite around here. I recently heard there is also a remix ep that will be dropping towards the end of January. Last week we received a well put together e-mail from Jim-E Stack with a link to his remix of mirage (will be featured on the remix ep!), and its lovely. He makes good use of the verbed clicks and snaps that make the original excellent, and adds a clever rhythm with the right amount of syncopation. Its hard to miss the satisfying busta sample too (always a good move). His soundcloud is worth a glance. I dug the Chew Lips and Caribou remixes and have included them. Slick, in particular, uses a hot two step rhythm and big vocal chops. I’d keep him on your radar. Big Tings!
Bio(Press Release):
San Francisco born, New Orleans living, DJ/producer Jim-E Stack is the quirkiest act in music you’ve never heard of. Drawing influence anywhere from UK funky to Mexico’s 3ball, and house to pop, he strives to create his own eclectic brand of club music.
Born James Stack, Jim-E Stack grew up in San Francisco, eating burritos, drinking 40s, and playing drums in a string of terrible punk bands. A new found interest in club music and the World Wide Web would bring him into a new class of young producers as infatuated by musical internet exploration as they are with pushing the sounds of today’s club music.
2010 has been a good year for Jim-E Stack, producing official remixes for the likes of LOL Boys and NGUZUNGUZU, and playing alongside a wide range of acts, from Beach Fossils to Crookers.
