Not a bad week here, have been seriously busy with wrapping up another quarter. There was no shortage of good music from a few of our favorites. I’m not much of a holiday music fan, so these will do just fine. We’ve fully emerged from the biggest snow storm I’ve encountered here in MN (wasn’t here in ’91 for the Halloween Blizzard).
The groove on this tune works so well. Shit Robot remixing JOTS? Hell yeah. I’m a big fan of the ethereal synths, reminds me of the older Weird Tapes tune, Nightstalking, and Law and Order. The lead reminds a little of Discopolis. Either way its enormous, and original.
The Eli Escobar EP, Love Thing, that dropped this year was definitely a highlight, but sadly this remix was not featured on it. It popped up on a few mixes, and I’ve been waiting for it to surface. Mehdi kills it with great piano stabs. This is dance floor gold.
I’ve been enjoying Matthew Dear as of late, and this is a beautiful remix. There’s actually a serious amount of bass here (its way down there). You can barely recognize the original tune until towards the end of it. Again I fell for the big ethereal synths, and simple groove. They fit the original melody so well, and the sidechained vocals were a nice touch. The pitched and tweaked vocals at the end are uber creepy.
This remix by Jacques Renault made quite a few best ofs this year and for good reason. The melody and driving rhythm are perfect for the dancefloor. The disco bass, horns, and warm keys are what keep me coming back for more though. The chorus will work its way into your brain. As if we really needed another reason to love this guy.
